This is printed facsimile envelope—actually a folder cover— contains a program and dance card for an 1890 New Years Eve event in Augusta, Maine. The facsimile 2¢ stamp pictures the postmaster at the time, Joseph H. Manley, who served in that capacity from 1881-1892. The back of the item bears facsimile envelope flaps and receiving backmark. 1890 was the year that the new Augusta Post Office in Richardson Romanesque style—dubbed "The Castle"—was completed and opened.
