Mélodie Pastorale

Real photo postcard.
Domenico Mastroianni (1876-1962) was a Italian self-taught artist, who developed an amazing capacity to quickly model scenes in clay, photograph them,
then destroy each to start another. He produced thousands of images, mostly reproduced as postcards or decorative prints. He called his technique sculptochromie, photo-sculptures or sculptogravures. His subjects were generally religious, literary or historical. He had worked as an apprentice doing clay modelling in ceramic and terracotta workshops. In the course of his life, he met Manet, Renoir, Degas, Pissarro, Rodin, Klimt, Mucha and many other artists of the era.
